Thinking Ahead - Presentation

In your blog posts you have started to define the scope or approach of your presentations and the look and feel of your website, video and print materials. You have worked on first drafts and while not finished, have a good feel for the nature of your presentation. Even if you have had to make some changes in direction, you still know the overall theme you want to communicate.

It is time to start thinking ahead about your presentation and the appearance of your space. You will have the poster with easel, website, PSA and…

What other props or visuals have you decided on? Some of you already know you are going to do a handout, mini-handout, graphic charts, 3D model on your website and/or a physical model.

What other visual aids can be incorporated into your space to enhance your presentation and make you stand out from all the other presenters? What can catch people’s attention so they will want to stop and see what you are talking about?

Once you have their attention, how are you going to make a memorable presentation that will impress the judges, RCHS staff and other students?

Create a Post on your blog exploring your thoughts on the above. Also, research online to find suggestions from professionals that will enhance your presentation and make it memorable for your audience.

Then, list five or more ideas you found online and site the websites. They can’t all come from one website.

In your research, what ideas did you find that your think are really great?
Would they work for your presentation? If not, is there some way to incorporate part of the idea?

Look at the TED site to see what talks have been done about your subject. What did you learn from the way they presented that can help your presentation? Was it their presentation technique or the approach to the topic?

Check out this interesting site, Presentation Zen. In a recent post, he talks about one of his presentation heroes, Dr. Hans Rosling. He calls him the “Jedi Master of presenting data clearly, visually, and simply” and “He proves time and time again, that data are not dull—and when you are trying to change the world, there is no excuse for boring presentations.” Check out this example from the blog: US in a converging world: Hans Rosling on CNN.
